The Indiana Memorial Union operates as a hotel, a conference center and a student union. All conference sessions, food and social activities during the Symposium will take place in the IMU.

Contact the hotel directly. Inform the reservation staff person that you are participating in the American Genetic Association Syposium. Unless you identify yourself as a symposium participant, you may be unable to obtain a room.

We encourage you to make your reservation early as accommodations are often difficult to secure during the month of July – a busy month on campus for academic conferences.  The Genetics Symposium block of hotel rooms will be released to the general public on June 10, 2007.

Rates

Hotel room rates are based on type of room (single or double), and weekday (Sun – Thurs) or weekend (Fri & Sat) check-in.

The following are representative room charges projected for July 2007:

  • Single, weekday room w/one double bed                    $ 86.00

  • Single, weekday room w/one king bed                       $118.00

  • Double, weekday room w/2 double beds                    $110.00

  • Double, weekday room w/2 king beds                        $118.00

  • Suite, weekday w/2 double beds, parlor, bath             $220.00

Weekend rates are approximately $20.00 per day additional charge.
All rooms are subject to 11% tax.

Internet Access

Hardwire and wireless internet access is available throughout the IMU.


Bloomington Hotels

Bloomington has a number of locally owned hotels and bed & breakfasts, as well as national and international hotel chains. Most accommodations are within easy driving distance of campus. Four facilities are within walking distance of campus:

Dormitory Accomodations: Willkie Residence Hall

For those seeking economical single room lodging, a block of air-conditioned rooms is available for Modeling participants at Willkie Residence Center.

Location
Willkie Center is located on the east side of campus (see campus map at: www.iub.edu/~map).  The Center is a pleasant 12-15 minute walk to the IMU, where most conference activities take place.

Rooms
Willkie Center features “suite style” housing.  All rooms are singles.  Two single rooms share an adjoining bath.  Rooms are air-conditioned, have wall-to-wall carpeting, a bed, dresser and desk with overhead and desk lighting.

Linens including 2 sheets, lightweight coverlet, pillow, pillow case and small towel are provided.  We recommend that you bring your own bath towel.  It is your responsibility to provide your own toiletries.

You may select your suit mate or we will assign you a same gender suite mate (see housing reservations form, available at “Registration”)

ADA accommodations are available.  Any special needs/accommodations must be indicated on your housing form.

Cost
The cost for housing at Willkie Residence Center is $40.00/night +11% tax ($44.40)

Reservations
To reserve a single, air-conditioned room at Willkie Center, refer to the “Registration” section of this web site.  Complete both a Conference Registration Form AND a Housing Registration Form.

Reservation Deadline: Monday, June 19, 2007 (on-site reservations are not available)

Cancellation of Reservations
You may cancel reservations at Willkie center anytime up to June 19th by emailing your request to the Conference Registrar.

A cancellation charge of one night’s lodging will be assessed for any cancellation after June 19th.


Meals

Food-related events included in your registration fee include:

  • Reception.  Tuesday, July 10th (Cash bar w/ hors d’oeuvres)
  • Continental Breakfast.  Wednesday – Friday, July 11 – 13th
  • Poster Session Reception.  Wednesday, July 11th (Snacks & cash bar)
  • Banquet.  Thursday, July 12th.  (Ticketed, with surcharge above registration fee)
  • Morning and afternoon refreshment breaks.  Wednesday – Friday, July 11 – 13th

Dining in Bloomington

There are many pleasant pubs, restaurants and coffee houses located a pleasant walking distance from campus.

  • Kirkwood Avenue is a main street leading from campus to downtown Bloomington. Along Kirkwood you will find many casual eating options.
  • 4th Street is renowned for its unusual and unusually large selection of ethnic restaurants – Indian, Italian, Moroccan, Thai, Burmese, Mexican and Korean. Located between 4th and Kirkwood is Snow Lion, one of only two restaurants in the US featuring authentic Tibetan cuisine.
  • Downtown Bloomington hosts a variety of eating establishments in and around the Courthouse Square, ranging from Afghan, a California style coffee shop to sports bars to cafés to a long standing Greek restaurant.
